Barbara Walters was hoping to get an answer out of Katie Couric today on The View about all the buzz that Couric is leaving the CBS Evening News on The View.
Said Walters: "Will you confirm that you're leaving?"
"No," said Couric. "First of all, I don't think it's my place to do that. I haven't made a decision. I respect you wanting to ask the question and make news on The View, but I'm not in a position to discuss it at this time."
When The Viewsters peppered her with questions about doing a talk show, Couric said, "I'm figuring things out," adding, "I'm looking at all sorts of opportunities."
Walters also asked about the CBS evening news broadcast being in third place. Couric defended the show, saying, "Six and a half million people watch every night. ... That's a very big audience. ... I continue to do my best every single night. Even at the Today show, I was never a ratings-obsessed person. I focused on the quality of the work. ... I think it's top-notch. "
Walters ended with, "I think you're doing a great thing," to which Couric replied, "Thank you, but you don't know what I'm doing."
On Wednesday, Couric stops by the Today show to talk about her new book.
